On Sunday I had my first full day of responsibility. This involved fitting harnesses, introducing groups to the course, giving them their safety briefing, checking their equipment and setting up the zipline. I also helped with the set up and close of the course. Josh, Roger and Chris were all on hand to keep me right.
I felt like I was a useful part of the team today. It was good fun moving around in the treetops, helping customers and seeing how they dealt with the course's various challenges. With my own and the customers safety in mind, I had to make sure that, while maintaining a conversational and friendly tone, I also paid close attention to what I was doing. I tried to be methodical about how I checked the equipment. Thankfully Roger, Josh and Chris were all on hand to keep me right and give me some helpful pointers.
I also did a spot of training with Phil on Monday, this was in open solo canoes and we were practicing some of the skills for moving water. It was only the second time I had been in an open solo boat but I felt quite comfortable as Phil had already given me a bit of training the previous week. The stretch of water was along the canal at Dochgarroch. It was very sunny but thankfully I didn't have to do any swimming as the water was still freezing!
